游戏最重要的方面就是在一个可随时暂停系统下制定战术。玩家控制4个战士，可以随时暂停来给每一个战士制定战术来击败敌人。而其他游戏中的动物等NPC也会在每场战斗给玩家带来意想不到的突袭。
玩家可以从8个不同的战士中选择4个来改变队伍的组成。每一个不同的战士都有不同的优缺点，让玩家必须在每个人物中来平衡队伍配置来获得胜利。
